Outreach & Training
Our staff have well developed expertise in a number of areas and this together with excellent facilities and resources enables us to play a significant role in the network of services the Local Authority provides to meet the special educational needs of pupils in Gloucestershire.
Staff provide advice and support for teachers and support workers of pupils with physical and learning difficulties in mainstream schools through its Outreach and Training services. Staff also provide support the transition process for children in the Foundation Department who have been identified as ready to transfer into a mainstream school setting.
Coney Hill Milestone Teaching School Alliance
We also have our own Teaching School Alliance which is lead in partnership with a local mainstream school – Coney Hill Community Primary School. Through Coney Hill Milestone Teaching School Alliance (CHM TSA) we provide formal CPD sessions for both mainstream and SEN practitioners and School Direct Initial Teacher Training (ITT), as well as bespoke training sessions and outreach for both mainstream and SEN Early Years, Primary and Secondary settings. CHM TSA is also a partner in the South West Network of Special Teaching School Alliances (NeSTA) and through this engagement is involved in the development and delivery of post graduate training for SEN practitioners across the South West.
Sara Watters and Sam Brain, our Lead Practitioners offer support to others to achieve excellence, identify development needs and offer guidance necessary to enhance skills and best practice to support pupil and practitioner learning.
They have a range of readymade courses or twilight sessions or they can provide bespoke courses to meeting your settings individual requirements. In addition, they can arrange shadowing sessions at our school for staff supporting pupils with SEN. They do not claim to have all the answers but will be able to point you in the right direction of someone who does.
The Milestone School is also able to offer Team Teach and Manual Handling training - please contact the school for more details on any of the above.
