The Chamwell Centre
The Chamwell Centre will be a state-of-the-art therapies centre within the grounds of Milestone School. The main feature of the centre will be a new hydrotherapy pool (replacing the aged pool currently being used in school). Other facilities to include rebound therapy, soft play, sensory room and Community Café. There will also be a Changing Places toilet, a very much needed facility here in Gloucestershire.
Phase 1 of the Chamwell Centre was completed in November 2017 – reconfiguration of the school car park and playground. This has resulted in a secure new wheelchair friendly multi surface sports area for use during school hours, for e.g. RaceRunning and football. At the start and end of the day this area doubles up as much welcomed parking for school transport.
Funding from The Pied Piper Appeal to the Chamwell Centre Charity has resulted in a fantastic new playground (also completed November 2017). The children are all thoroughly enjoying this new play area with wheelchair accessible tunnel, bridge, bamboo sensory area and path through the trees. There is also a chill-out pit, performing stage, a mud pit and rills for sensory play and OPAL lessons. Lots of fun for all to enjoy!
Much needed fundraising by the Chamwell Centre Charity continues, £3.6m of the £5.1m target has been reached since September 2016 thanks to many sponsors and donations.
Phase 2, building of the Chamwell Centre itself is due to commence Autumn 2018 with the aim to be fully completed by January 2020.
